The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado has received a number of calls once again from consumers about the false advertising practices of a company called Mile Hi Aeration.

We first alerted the public about this Denver- based company in April of 2005 when we received complaints from consumers about the company’s false advertising practices and failure to show up for appointments.

The majority of the complaints we are receiving now have to do with fraudulent marketing techniques. Consumers report that a representative from the company e-mails or calls the consumer saying that Mile Hi aerated the consumer’s lawn last year. In fact, these consumers have ever done business with Mile Hi Aeration. We are also told that Mile Hi, which has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau in Denver, is violating no call registries.

When considering hiring any type of contractor – especially those that solicit you, the BBB of SC has the following tips.

• Get two of three bids from different companies.
• Get detailed estimates and contracts in writing.
• Call the Pike Peak Regional Building Department at 791-327-2880 to make sure the company is licensed and insured.
• Call the BBB of SC first to get more information before agreeing to hire the company.
