PRESS RELEASE AARP ElderWatch FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 5, 2008 CONTACT Allison Carver, Program Coordinator 720-947-5302 (DENVER) – Colorado’s AARP ElderWatch, a program with the Colorado Attorney General’s office and the AARP Foundation, was awarded a prestigious consumer protection award at the 33rd annual NACAA (National Association for Consumer Administrator Agencies) conference in Dallas. Colorado ElderWatch was recognized with an ACE award for their consumer outreach program Fight Identity Theft by Securing your Signature program. This unique outreach program helps older adults learn how to protect themselves from check washing and mail fraud. Included in the kit is a "wash-proof" pen that has ink that is specially formulated to not wash off checks if an identity thief steals and tries to wash them. "We recognize that the majority of older adults are still paying their bill with checks through the mail, and we want to help them take steps towards protecting themselves by placing the tools in their hands" says Amy Nofziger, Colorado ElderWatch Program Leader. Colorado ElderWatch has successfully educated over 4,000 seniors on the importance of this preventive measure and will work to reach another 2,000 by year end. AARP ElderWatch was started in 2001 to help stop the financial exploitation of seniors in Colorado. ### AARP ElderWatch, 1301
