Statement by Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar Concerning Federal Court Ruling in Oklahoma Against Federal No-Call Rule The federal district court's ruling in Oklahoma halting implementation of the federal no-call telemarketing rule has no effect on Colorado's own, separate no-call law. The privacy of Coloradans who have registered over 1.1 million of their residential, fax and cell phone numbers under Colorado's no-call list is still protected from unwanted and intrusive commercial telemarketing calls by Colorado's state law. I remind Coloradans that if they are on Colorado's no-call list and receive unsolicited commercial sales calls in violation of our law, to continue to report these possible violations. Citizens may do so online at www.ColoradoNoCall.com or by calling toll free 1-888-600-5688. The Oklahoma ruling does not mean open season on Colorado's citizens. Our state law is still in effect and if telemarketers choose to violate that law, they will face the consequences. (NOTE: A lawsuit filed by various telemarketing interests in June 2002 challenging Colorado's no-call law remains pending before Colorado U.S. District Court Judge Blackburn. Judge Blackburn rejected the telemarketers' request for a preliminary injunction to stop implementation of Colorado's law.) |
