Signs of financial exploitation may include: Sudden changes in bank activity‚ especially the unexplained withdrawal of large sums of money. An elder who lacks adequate food, clothing or personal care items when it appears that they have enough money to purchase them. Bank statements and canceled checks that no longer go to the clients’s address; all mail has been re-directed to a different address. An older person is greatly overcharged for services such as auto or home repairs, lawn care or errands. Previously unknown relatives or acquaintances move in with an older person. A caregiver or family member with access to an older person’s money appear to use the funds for himself/herself rather than for the elder, resulting in numerous, unprecedented unpaid bills.
